Megève, nestled in the French Alps, is an iconic winter resort founded in 1916 by Baroness Noémie de Rothschild. Known for its rich history and glamorous clientele, the resort quickly became a favourite among Europe's aristocracy. Despite its glamour, the resort maintains its traditional charm with cobbled streets, horse-drawn sleighs, and a beautifully preserved medieval centre. Today, Megève is the epitome of luxury, offering guests an all-encompassing winter holiday experience beyond just skiing.

Luxury Chalets in Megeve

Situated at a crossroads between Chamonix, the Mont Blanc region and Val d’Arly, Megeve is part of the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, which encompasses over 445 km of pistes. While many ski resorts focus exclusively on skiing, Megève offers much more. From world-class restaurants, including several Michelin-starred establishments, to a lively town centre with boutique shops and galleries, Megève is a resort for those seeking a luxury experience that combines sport, culture, and relaxation.

Megeve accommodation is spread out over several different neighbourhoods, although you'll find some of the finest luxury chalets in Megeve located within walking distance of the town centre and its many shops, bars and restaurants. Examples include the beautifully restored mountain home Chalet des Fermes and the more modern Chalet Lamartine. Proximity to the Chamois lift, which takes you up to Rochebrune, makes this area convenient for skiers.

Due to its serene atmosphere and direct access to the ski slopes, Rochebrune is another desirable area in Megeve. Home to one of Megeve's main ski areas, Rochebrune offers privacy and several ski-in/ski-out chalets such as Chalet Kantaa and Chalet Hirvi.

Located just outside Megeve's main town centre, Demi-Quartier is known for its peaceful ambience and family-friendly vibe. This neighbourhood provides a more rural feel than other parts of Megeve with architecture often reflecting the traditional Alpine style. Located on the edge of the forest, Chalet des Renards is a fine example of the space and privacy this area offers.

Located between Mont d'Arbois and Demi Quartier. the Princesse area features a variety of luxury chalets, many of which boast stunning views of the surrounding mountains, particularly Mont Blanc. Here, you’ll find both self-catered ski chalets such as Chalet Eastwood and luxury catered ski chalets.

Megève is now one of the chicest enclaves for lovers of the slopes, with a wonderful town centre full of old-school Alpine charm: a beautiful church at its heart, fabulous stores filled to the brim with cashmere and amazing pieces for the home – and no cars whatsoever.

Luxury Ski Holidays in Megeve

The heart of Megève is its beautiful, traffic-free medieval town centre, where horse-drawn sleighs can be seen trotting along cobbled streets, surrounded by centuries-old buildings and boutique shops. A central open-air ice rink, splendidly lit at night, adds to the magical ambience. When it comes to accommodation, choose from a variety of four or five-star hotels, or opt to stay in one of the finest luxury ski chalets in Megève.

Megève’s ski area is vast and varied, spread across three main mountains: Rochebrune, Mont d’Arbois, and Le Jaillet. The ski area is somewhat fragmented, with gondolas and a cross-valley cable car connecting the different mountains, but a reliable and free bus service runs between the various lift stations, ensuring easy access for skiers.

Megeve is one of France's oldest and best-known ski resorts and also one of its most upmarket. I particularly enjoy the authentic village atmosphere in the resort centre, especially in December when the Christmas lights illuminate the quaint squares and streets. It’s truly magical.
