Nestled in the Swiss Alps, the small town of Davos has long held international appeal far beyond its ski slopes. Originally renowned for its tuberculosis sanatoriums in the late 19th century, it has since transformed into a global hub, most notably as the annual meeting place for the World Economic Forum (WEF). But for winter sports enthusiasts, Davos is equally iconic as a ski resort. With its 300 km of pistes spread across six ski sectors, diverse terrain, and strong intermediate and advanced skiing options, Davos remains a top choice for luxury ski holidays.

Luxury Chalets in Davos

Davos is a town divided into two main areas: Davos Platz and Davos Dorf. When searching for a Davos chalet rental, it is important to consider which area you would prefer to be based in. While Davos Platz offers proximity to most of the hotels, restaurants, and shops, Davos Dorf provides quicker access to the slopes. Despite this separation, an efficient ski bus system links the two areas, making it easy to get around.

Davos is home to a range of luxury chalets that offer world-class amenities, privacy, and comfort in the heart of the Swiss Alps. These chalets are designed to combine alpine charm with modern sophistication, featuring spacious living areas, stylish interiors, and panoramic mountain views.

Many luxury chalets in Davos come with amenities like private spas, saunas, indoor pools, and even home cinemas, ensuring you can unwind after a day on the slopes.

Smooth, long, gentle pistes wind through the trees for miles with fleeting, expansive views of the surrounding mountains and valleys; there are plenty of handsome wooden chalets dotted about serving hearty food and hot drinks.

Luxury Ski Holidays in Davos

Though Davos ski resort might not have the charm or traditional alpine architecture of some other Swiss resorts, like nearby Klosters, it offers a more functional setting, focusing on what matters to skiers: easy access to the mountains.

Historically, Davos played an essential role in the early days of skiing. The sport’s popularity in the area began in the 1880s when a local businessman brought "Norwegian snowshoes" (early skis) to Davos, captivating famous visitors like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Today, visitors can even follow in Conan Doyle’s footsteps, skiing across the Maienfelder Furgga Pass to Arosa with a guide.

In the early 20th century, the development of the antibiotic Streptomycin diminished the need for Davos’s sanatoriums, but the town had already positioned itself as a winter sports destination.

What I love most about Davos is its incredible variety—whether you're carving through the long runs of Parsenn or exploring the quieter Rinerhorn, there's always something new to discover. And after an exhilarating day on the slopes, the town itself offers a great mix of culture, luxury, and après-ski, making it a top choice for an unforgettable winter escape.
