There are plenty of reasons why we love Meribel, not least for its pretty alpine villages, chalet-style architecture and family-friendly ambience. However, its prime appeal lies in its central position within the world-famous Trois Vallées ski area, offering unparalleled access to world-class skiing right on your doorstep.

Luxury Chalets in Meribel

Founded in the 1930s by British skier, Peter Lindsay, Meribel has transformed from a traditional farming village into a renowned ski resort. Particularly popular with families, luxury ski holidays in Meribel offer over 600 km of pistes and a wealth of activities for all ages to enjoy.

Meribel shares its slopes with those of Courchevel and La Tania to the east and Les Ménuires and Val Thorens to the west. Combined, these form one of the largest linked ski areas in the world.

Luxury chalets in Meribel are spread over several different villages ranging from 1,100m to 1,750m in altitude. At 1,100m, the lowest of these is Les Allues. Located at the base of the Meribel Valley, Les Allues is a traditional Savoyard village with a year-round community. It is possible to ski back to Les Allues via a long, relatively gentle red run, though this usually closes before the end of the season due to the village’s low altitude.

Meribel Village, situated at 1,400m, is a quiet, traditional village just a five-minute drive from central Meribel. With a supermarket, ski shop, bakery and a couple of restaurants and bars, it is a fantastic area for families to stay. Some of our favourite catered chalets in Meribel are located here, including Chalet du Vallon with its spacious open-plan living area and Chalet La Loze with its outdoor hot tub. Most chalets in Meribel Village are within walking distance of the Golf chairlift, which provides direct access to the Altiport area of Meribel.

At the end of the day, you can ski down the Lapin piste to reach the Village, perhaps stopping off at Lodge du Village for a refreshing tipple or two before walking back to your Meribel luxury chalet.

Méribel is the perfect place to explore one of the biggest combined piste areas in the world…the resort is one of the liveliest ski areas in the Alps, with buzzy bars and slope-side restaurants for your next fondue fix, as well as a thrumming aprés ski scene.

Luxury Ski Holidays in Meribel

Located in the Tarentaise Valley, Meribel ski resort sits at the heart of the Trois Vallées ski area, which spans the picturesque valleys of Courchevel, Val Thorens, and Meribel itself. The Trois Vallées boasts over 600 km of slopes and is renowned for its extensive lift system, breathtaking alpine scenery, and wide variety of accommodation.

With slopes ranging from 1,450m to 3,230m, Meribel ensures reasonable snow conditions throughout the season. Although the local slopes can get a little slushy in March, particularly at the lower end of the resort, the entire Three Valleys area offers plenty of terrain to explore.

Luxury ski holidays in Meribel are ideal for beginners and families, with most of its 150 km pistes categorised as blue. We recommend starting your skiing journey on the nursery slopes at Rond Point, or in the Altiport and Mottaret areas which have designated beginner ski areas with free lifts.

There’s plenty more challenging skiing available too. We love the views from the fairly steep Combe Tougette or if you’re feeling adventurous venture into the controlled off-piste zone off the top of the Saulire ski lift.

Once you have been to Les Trois Vallees I am certain that you will keep returning. Meribel is perfectly situated in the heart of the largest linked ski area in the world, so whether you are a beginner, a lovely long lunch kind of skier, or one who loves to clock up the kilometres, Meribel is an excellent choice for your next ski holiday.
