Luxury Chalets in Meribel
Founded in the 1930s by British skier, Peter Lindsay, Meribel has transformed from a traditional farming village into a renowned ski resort. Particularly popular with families, luxury ski holidays in Meribel offer over 600 km of pistes and a wealth of activities for all ages to enjoy.
Meribel shares its slopes with those of Courchevel and La Tania to the east and Les Ménuires and Val Thorens to the west. Combined, these form one of the largest linked ski areas in the world.
Luxury chalets in Meribel are spread over several different villages ranging from 1,100m to 1,750m in altitude. At 1,100m, the lowest of these is Les Allues. Located at the base of the Meribel Valley, Les Allues is a traditional Savoyard village with a year-round community. It is possible to ski back to Les Allues via a long, relatively gentle red run, though this usually closes before the end of the season due to the village’s low altitude.
Meribel Village, situated at 1,400m, is a quiet, traditional village just a five-minute drive from central Meribel. With a supermarket, ski shop, bakery and a couple of restaurants and bars, it is a fantastic area for families to stay. Some of our favourite catered chalets in Meribel are located here, including Chalet du Vallon with its spacious open-plan living area and Chalet La Loze with its outdoor hot tub. Most chalets in Meribel Village are within walking distance of the Golf chairlift, which provides direct access to the Altiport area of Meribel.
At the end of the day, you can ski down the Lapin piste to reach the Village, perhaps stopping off at Lodge du Village for a refreshing tipple or two before walking back to your Meribel luxury chalet.
Just outside Meribel Village is the picturesque hamlet of Le Raffort. Here Chalet Cheval Blanc provides the perfect base for families with ski-in/gondola out possibilities via the Raffort piste.
If you’re looking to be at the heart of the action, we recommend staying in Meribel Centre (1,450m). Here, you’ll find the main lift hub at La Chaudanne, a popular meeting point for ski schools that provides access to Courchevel (Saulire Express), Mottaret (Legends or Tougnete 1) and the Altiport (Rhodos). At the entrance to Meribel Centre, Musslion is home to several popular chalets including Chalet Mont Tremblant and La Ferme de Mon Grand Pere.
Within a 10-minute walk of the main high street, Meribel Morel and Le Plateau are also popular for Meribel luxury chalets close to the centre. These areas have their own shops and restaurants, including the popular Tsaretta Spice, and a chairlift that takes you up to the Altiport area. Stay at Chalet Le Grenier for outstanding views and spa facilities.
Continuing on the road up to the Altiport, you’ll come to Le Rond Point. Home to the famous apres-ski bar known as Ronnies, this area features some of our favourite Meribel apartments, including Jossane and Nanuq. Heading along Route de Belvedere at the top of Meribel Centre, you’ll find some of the resort’s most exclusive chalets, including the ski-in/ski-out Eglantine and Eleanore, as well as the spectacular Chalet Valentine.
Sitting at 1,700m, the highest village is Meribel-Mottaret. Purpose-built in the 1970s, this area offers a range of shops, bars and restaurants but tends to be a lot quieter than the centre of Meribel. Access to the Courchevel Valley is quickest from here and much of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out or close to the piste.
Whether you prefer the vibrant atmosphere of Meribel Centre, the family-friendly charm of Meribel Village, or the peaceful surroundings of Meribel-Mottaret, we can find the perfect luxury chalet for you in any one of these locations.
