How to get to Crans Montana?

By road: Crans Montana is easily accessible by road. Take the A9 motorway to Sierre and exit at Sierre-Ouest towards Crans Montana. From there, it’s a 25-minute drive up to the villages of Crans and Montana.

By train: direct trains run from Geneva Airport to Sierre approximately every 30 minutes. From Sierre, you can take the funicular to Montana Gare, which takes about 15 minutes.

By plane & helicopter: The nearest airport is Sion Airport, located just 30 kilometres from Crans Montana. Other convenient airports include Geneva (180 kilometres), Milan Malpensa (220 kilometres), and Basel Mulhouse (270 kilometres). Helicopter transfers can land in Chermignon-d'en-Haut, just a few minutes from Crans Montana by car.

Crans-Montana’s ski area is one of its biggest attractions, offering a mix of stunning scenery, diverse terrain, and modern facilities. Stretching across 140 km of marked pistes, it’s an ideal destination for intermediate skiers, though it caters to all levels. The resort's location on the south-facing slopes of Mount Bonvin gives skiers breathtaking panoramic views and plenty of sunshine

The ski area is spread across two main villages, Crans and Montana, and can be accessed via three primary gondolas: the Merbé/Cry d'Er lift in Crans, the Arnouva gondola in Montana, and the Les Violettes lift, which takes you to 2,220 metres. A free shuttle bus connects these bases, making it easy to explore the entire area. For those looking to ski further afield, the small hamlet of Aminona also provides access to the slopes via a bus service.

Crans-Montana offers uncrowded, well-maintained slopes, making it an ideal destination for learning to ski. With three dedicated nursery areas, beginners can start their journey on the Severiano Ballesteros golf course or at the Jardin des Neiges in Arnouva, both providing a safe and comfortable environment for young skiers and novices to gain confidence on the snow. From here, you can progress to the Cry d’Er area above Crans, where gentle blue runs and drag lifts provide the perfect setting for practising turns.

However, Crans Montana is mostly known as an intermediate skier's paradise with extensive wide, long, red and blue runs. The gently winding slopes on the northeastern side of Aminona tend to be significantly quieter than the more centrally located runs. The highest slopes in the region are found at Plaine Morte. However, be aware the runs here can feel quite exposed if the weather turns and you may feel more comfortable sticking to the tree-lined areas slightly lower down the mountain.

Though Crans Montana isn't renowned for advanced skiing, the black run descending from Plaine Morte provides a notable challenge. There are also various ungroomed itinerary routes marked in yellow on the piste map. These patrolled but unpisted routes offer experienced skiers a thrilling off-piste experience, especially in the eastern area of the resort around Petit Bonvin.

Freestyle skiers and snowboarders are well catered to in Crans Montana, thanks to the expansive terrain park at Cry d'Er which includes a boardercross, quarterpipes, big-air jumps, rails and a superpipe.

Crans Montana boasts an incredibly diverse culinary scene, offering a wide range of international flavours, from Thai, Japanese, and Lebanese to Italian, Argentinian, and of course, Swiss cuisine. For fine dining, Michelin-starred Le Mont Blanc delivers not only exceptional food and an interesting wine list but also breathtaking views to complement your meal. Its sister restaurant Bistrot des Ours, is equally popular, serving French-Mediterranean cuisine with commanding views. L’Ours is another Michelin-starred gem, while Le Partage offers a creative tasting menu featuring locally sourced ingredients.

With an average of 300 days of sun per year, it is no wonder Crans Montana has become just as popular in summer as in winter. There are a plethora of activities on offer from hiking and biking to horse riding and watersports. However, with four courses and a prestigious club, it is golf that is the main attraction.

Crans Montana offers a variety of adventure sports for thrill-seekers. Try paragliding over the stunning mountain landscape, via ferrata (fixed climbing routes) for an adrenaline-filled experience, or the wake park at Lake Moubra for wakeboarding. You can also explore the area on fat bikes or e-bikes, perfect for taking on the hills without breaking too much of a sweat.

Enjoy the area's beautiful lakes, like Lake Moubra and Etang Long, where you can try stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply relax on the shores. Fishing is also popular in these serene settings. For those seeking a swim, there are beaches around Lake Moubra, complete with beach volleyball courts and picnic spots.

For families, Crans Montana offers plenty to keep kids entertained. The Fun Forest Adventure Park offers treetop adventures and zip lines, while Bibi’s Adventure Park provides mini-golf, trampolines, and go-karting. How to get to Crans Montana

The closest major airport to Crans Montana is Geneva, which shouldn't take more than 2 hours 30 minutes. Zurich Airport is another option, though the drive is closer to 3 hours 30 minutes. From either airport, you can hire a car or take a train for a scenic journey through the Swiss countryside. We can also organise a private transfer in a luxury vehicle or a helicopter transfer.

If you prefer to travel by train, there are frequent services from both Geneva and Zurich airports to the town of Sierre. The journey from Geneva takes about 2 hours 45 minutes while from Zurich it’s approximately 3 hours 15 minutes.

Once in Sierre, you can either take a 12-minute funicular ride up the mountain, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, or hop on a bus or taxi for a short 30-minute drive to Crans Montana.
