Luxury Chalets in Val Gardena
Val Gardena is divided into three charming villages: Ortisei, Selva, and Santa Cristina. Each village offers a range of accommodation options from hotels to luxury chalets. Ortisei, the largest of the three, is the largest and most cosmopolitan of the three villages. Often regarded as the cultural heart of the valley, Ortisei is famous for its vibrant, picturesque streets filled with colourful, chalet-style buildings adorned with frescoes, lively shops, and family-run cafes. It is also known for its woodcarving tradition, and the village is home to many artisans and galleries.
Access to the slopes is easy, with two main lift stations in the village: the Seceda cable car, which takes skiers up to 2,500 metres and links directly to the Sella Ronda circuit, and the Alpe di Siusi funicular, leading to a sun-drenched plateau ideal for beginners and families.
Chalets such as Milé 1 and Milè 2 offer easy access to shopping, dining, and spa facilities, with the village boasting a range of excellent restaurants that reflect both Italian and Tyrolean culinary traditions. You might also find some ski-in/ski-out options such as Chalet Vilaiet which provides direct access to the slopes.
Ideally situated at the foot of the famed Sella Ronda circuit, Selva is the highest village in Val Gardena and provides the most direct access to the Dolomiti Superski area.
The village has a vibrant, bustling atmosphere and many luxury chalets, including Chalet Alpurio and Villa Carolina, are within a short walk of the slopes, making it a favourite for those who want to maximise their ski time. Selva’s location on the Sella Ronda circuit allows you to embark on the famous 26-kilometre route around the Sella massif right from your doorstep. While skiing is Selva’s main draw, the village also has a variety of après-ski and nightlife options that cater to a younger, more energetic crowd.
Finally, Santa Cristina is the smallest and most tranquil of the three villages, ideal for families and those looking for a quieter, more relaxed experience. Nestled between Ortisei and Selva, Santa Cristina sits at an altitude of 1,428 metres and is surrounded by some of Val Gardena’s most striking natural landmarks, including the imposing Sassolungo and Sella peaks, which create an awe-inspiring backdrop.
Though it is smaller than Ortisei and Selva, Santa Cristina is far from being isolated, as it has its own access to the Dolomiti Superski area through the Monte Pana and Ciampinoi lifts. The village has a charming, traditional feel, with picturesque wooden chalets, quiet streets, and a few local shops and bakeries where you can pick up fresh pastries or browse for local crafts. The après-ski scene here is low-key, with just a few cosy bars and restaurants that offer a warm, inviting place to relax after a day on the slopes.
No matter which village you choose, Val Gardena ski resort promises an unforgettable ski experience with its breathtaking landscapes, diverse skiing options, and the perfect blend of Italian and Tyrolean culture.
