At 1,034m above sea level, Grindelwald may not be the highest resort in the Alps, but it offers excellent skiing conditions throughout much of the season. With access to 155 km of local slopes, ski holidays in Grindelwald are ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers, while more advanced skiers can enjoy thrilling off-piste opportunities. Nestled beneath the imposing North Face of the Eiger, Grindelwald combines stunning alpine views with a diverse range of skiing experiences, making it a great destination for all abilities.
Beginner skiers will find Grindelwald particularly welcoming. Children learning to ski can start at the Bodmi beginner's area, which caters specifically to younger skiers. The Snowli Kinderclub Bodmi provides childcare for children aged 3 and up, where they can enjoy snow play with the mascot Snowli and visit a fun Inuit igloo. Older children can join ski lessons offered by the local ski school, with options for half-day or full-day lessons.
The upper slopes of the resort are gentle, wide, and perfect for those just starting out. In Obeerjoch, a special slow slope helps beginners build confidence and refine their technique at a comfortable pace. For more practice, Wengen offers a dedicated beginner's area equipped with two tow lifts and easy slopes leading to Wengenalm, allowing newcomers to get comfortable on the snow in a relaxed environment.
Intermediate skiers will find plenty of terrain to explore, with 30% of Grindelwald’s ski area designed for intermediate ability and another 50% featuring advanced intermediate slopes. One of the highlights is the five-mile-long run from the Oberjoch area, offering a scenic cruise all the way back to the base of the resort. If you're seeking a bit more challenge, the red runs between the Schilt and Hohwald chairlifts provide a thrilling ride with varied terrain.
For experts, Grindelwald offers more than enough to keep adrenaline levels high. A must-try is Wengen’s famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill slope, an iconic run that promises an exhilarating experience. In addition to a variety of black runs, adventurous skiers can explore the exciting off-piste terrain around the Jungfraujoch. This area provides not only thrilling descents but also some of the most breathtaking views in the Alps, known as the “Top of Europe.”
For cross-country enthusiasts, the trail in Grindelwald Grund is easily accessible by bus or train, offering a scenic option for those looking to explore the region on skis.
