Nestled deep in the Dranse Valley, Morzine enjoys a prime location at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area, granting access to 650 km of runs. The resort is divided by the Dranse River, with luxury chalets in Morzine scattered across both sides. To the west lies the neighbouring resort of Les Gets, while the eastern slope is home to Montriond and, higher up, Avoriaz. A pedestrian bridge conveniently connects the Montriond side to Morzine, where the town centre is located.

Choosing a luxury ski chalet in Morzine centre has clear advantages. You’ll have easy access to the Super Morzine gondola, which takes you directly into the Portes du Soleil ski area, as well as the Pléney lifts that connect to the local slopes of Morzine and Les Gets. For those who enjoy being at the heart of the action, with proximity to bars and restaurants, properties like Apartment Les Abeilles and The Old Macaroni are ideal choices.

Just an hour’s drive from Geneva, Morzine is nestled between Lake Geneva and the iconic Mont Blanc in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Once a rural market town reliant on agriculture and slate mining, Morzine’s transformation began in the 1920s with the opening of the Grand Hotel. The construction of the Pleney cable car in 1934 further boosted the area, initially attracting hikers, and later, as skiing grew in popularity, skiers.

In the 1960s, Olympic champion Jean Vuarnet played a pivotal role in developing Avoriaz as a ski resort, leading to the creation of the Portes du Soleil ski area and solidifying Morzine’s status as a top ski destination. Today, Morzine is a popular year-round tourist destination, yet it has managed to preserve its authentic Alpine charm through its architecture, ambience, and the warmth of the locals.

Luxury ski chalets in Morzine provide a fantastic base for family holidays offering entertainment for all ages both on and off the slopes. The local ski area, connected to Les Gets, boasts 120 km of pistes accessible via the main Le Pléney gondola in the town centre. Although Morzine is relatively low in elevation, its grassy slopes require only a thin layer of snow to remain open. The resort has invested in advanced snowmaking technology to ensure good conditions even when natural snowfall is sparse.

For higher-altitude skiing, the slopes of neighbouring Avoriaz offer an excellent alternative. We recommend visiting between mid-January and early February for the best chance of fresh snowfall. Mid-January is also a great time to dodge the crowds, as is early December and late March.

The centre of Morzine exudes a charming, traditional Alpine atmosphere, blending both historical and modern elements. Rue du Bourg, the main street, is lined with shops, bars and cafes. The town is usually bustling with activity well into the evening, with a lively après-ski scene and plenty of bars to choose from. Morzine also offers a wide range of off-slope activities.

Step out of your luxury Morzine chalet and embark on a guided snowshoe walk or enjoy a dog sled ride in the Manche Valley. One of our favourite things to do in Morzine is to watch the local ice hockey team, the Penguins, play at the Skoda Arena.

For a taste of the local culture, consider a guided tour of the cheese dairy at L’Alpage, where you can also stock up on local cheese specialities, cured meats, wine, jams and honey. Additionally, you can pick up local produce at the local market which takes place in the centre of Morzine every Wednesday.

In March, music lovers flock to Morzine for the Rock the Pistes Festival on the slopes of Portes du Soleil and the Snowboxx Festival in Avoriaz.

Ideal for family ski holidays, Morzine offers a diverse range of ski runs catering to all ages and abilities. The ski area can be roughly divided into three main zones: the local Pléney/Les Gets area, the nearby Nyon and Chamossière slopes, and the expansive Super Morzine that connects to the vast Portes du Soleil network.

The Pléney area, known for its sun-soaked, tree-lined slopes, is an excellent starting point for beginners. It offers a variety of gentle runs with favourites like Piste B, Corbeau, and Grizzli ideal for those progressing beyond the nursery slopes. Nyon also has a beginner-friendly magic carpet lift and tends to be less crowded than Pléney during peak weeks.

For more advanced skiers, the Nyon area offers some thrilling steep descents, including the red Aiguille Rouge, Les Lanches and La Combe pistes. On a clear day, the summit of Point de Nyon offers stunning views of Lake Geneva in one direction and Mont Blanc in the other.

Chamossière, though smaller, presents challenging runs from the summit, including the black Les Creux and the red Arbis. The area is also popular with free-riders offering access to an unpisted bowl, though we recommend only seasoned skiers with essential avalanche safety gear venture here.

The Super Morzine gondola, located on the opposite side of the valley from Pleney, connects to the Zore lift, ultimately leading to Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil. Avoriaz, renowned for its impressive snow park and halfpipe, usually has the best snow conditions. From here, you can easily reach Lindarets, which links to Chatel and Switzerland.

For expert skiers, the Swiss Wall, or ‘Le Pas de Chavanette,’ is a must. This exceptionally steep and bumpy run is one of the most challenging ski slopes in the world. It is so demanding that it is classified beyond black as an orange run. Off-piste enthusiasts will find plenty of terrain to explore, particularly in the Nyon and Chamoissiere areas, where easily accessible off-piste options abound.

This charming family-run Savoyarde restaurant on the Nyon plateau is perfect for savouring local specialities in a relaxed setting. Another popular spot for lunch is Le Vaffieu at the top of the Folliets chairlift, where you can enjoy traditional French cuisine in a Savoyard-style chalet or on the sunny terrace.

If you’re staying in one of Morzine’s self-catered chalets, evenings provide an excellent opportunity to explore the resort’s many dining options. For family-friendly dining in the centre of town, Le Colibri is our top choice. This all-day bistro, open from 8 am to 10 pm, offers a wide-ranging menu that includes everything from burgers, hot dogs and croques to salads, Buddha bowls and sharing platters.

For a quick bite, Ô Chalet is sure to tempt you with its menu of burgers, savoury crêpes and bagels, while L’Improviste Morzine is the go-to spot for the best pizza in town.

Morzine also boasts some fantastic restaurants serving French classics. La Grange is perfect for an elegant dinner, La Rotunde offers an extensive menu and wine list, and La Chaudanne impresses with its vaulted wine cellar, housing over 350 wines. How to get to Morzine

Morzine is one of the most accessible ski resorts, located just 80 km from Geneva Airport. From the airport, you can reach your luxury ski chalet in Morzine by private transfer or rental car, with the drive taking approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. For a quicker and more scenic option, we can also arrange a helicopter transfer.

While Geneva is the most convenient airport, you can also fly into Chambery (130 km) Lyon (205 km) or Grenoble (208 km). However, transfer times from these airports are considerably longer.

If you prefer to travel by train, the closest stations to Morzine are Cluses (29 km) and Thonon-Les-Bains (32 km), both of which are served by high-speed (TVG) trains from Paris. The final leg of the journey by road takes around 40 - 60 minutes.
